About:

Brazil 15 began training on 1 September, 1964 at Arizona State University, Tempe, Arizona with approximately 75 hopefuls and ended November 24, 1964 with approximately 48 going to Brazil.

The group met at the Pan Am terminal at JFK on 6 December 1964 (light snow and cold) and arrived on 7 December 1964 at Rio de Janeiro (very hot and muggy).

We all stayed at the Hotel Florida on Rua Ferreira Viana in Flamengo and for the next several days received in-country orientation at the U.S. Embassy (now the U.S. Consulate).  Although we had trained for a Health Program in Mato Grosso, the group was split up with some Volunteers going to Bahia and Brasilia.

Most of the Volunteers flew to the State capitals and from their went out to their training sites.  However, 10? PCVs volunteered to drive Willys Jeeps from Rio to Mato Grosso which were to be used by the Ag Volunteers who were already station.

I'm not sure how I found this site.  If anybody's around Boston, get in touch.  I'm in the phone book as Catherine Polumbus. Actually, if you're in Montana or S. California - get in touch.

Overall, Peace Corps was very rewarding and a great enhancement to my on-going liberal arts education. Training at ASU was very beneficial, as was supervision by ASU staff in Brazil.

Returned to Pocone in 1986 for a visit, and located several local co-workers.

Got a library degree (MLS) in 1974 and have worked as a public library administrator in Illinois, Wisconsin, Texas, Washington and California. Currently semi-retired, working off and on as a interim library administrator.

I can still speak Portuguese, but I frequently mix in Spanish and Italian.
