I flew to Rio for carnival Feb. 1969.  I taught one semester in Curitiba at the American school then traveled to Belem by bus, stopping a week at a time to visit friends in Rio, Bahia, Recife, etc.   I took a boat up the Amazon to Manaus, flew to Miami with short stays in Bogotá and Panama City.  I returned to my job in Santa Monica at the end of August.

My sister and I both trained for Brazil (she trained in Albuquerque).  She served in Maceió, Alagoas, then returned for additional experiences in Colombia and again in Brazil, where I caught up with her for carnival.
