For each postage stamp issued by the U.S.P.S. commemorating a person, place,
organization or event, there is a ceremony at a designated location.
For the first day the postage is issued only, the cancellation reads, "First
Day of Issue." Special envelopes have been designed and produced by
collectors for years. These special covers or cachets are called
"first day covers," when affixed with the commemorative postage and
cancelled, First Day of Issue.
Tim Schnabel has both collected and co-produced these covers for many years.
