Peace Corps Brazil Reunions

updated: 04-Oct-12

Brazil Seven Peace Corps Reunion is only two month away. Oct. 5th, 6th, and 7th will be here before we know it. Bob and I looking forward to hosting you in Stillwater.

We have reserved a block of rooms at the Microtel Inn and Suites. 423 East Hall of Fame under the name: Brazil Peace Corps, Tel:405-372-7100. It is a new motel and the quoted rate is $75 plus tax per night. A continental breakfast is included and they will hold the rooms until Sept. 15th. You must make your own reservation. The Microtel is about five miles from our home. The Fairfield Inn (Marriott) is across the street and the Stillwater Plaza Hotel and Cimarron are up the street. There are also many other hotels in Stillwater so feel free to stay where you please.

If anyone wants to opt for reliving the Rio Hotel Annex experience we do have a sofa bed on the porch and one in the living room, but they are in very high traffic areas so late to bed and very early to rise would be a necessity.

Stillwater has an airport but there are no commercial flights. If you are flying you will need to fly into Tulsa or Oklahoma City. Both airports are about 70 miles away. The only transportation to Stillwater is by car. Therefore,if you are flying communicate with everyone so you can double up on transportation if desired.

Looking forward to hearing from you. More details for the weekend will follow .

Hi All:

Happy Thanksgiving!
2012 is almost here and it's time for another reunion!
Bob and I would like to invite you to explore Stillwater, Oklahoma some time in September or October of 2012. Wish we could extend a more definite invitation at this time, but the OSU football schedule for 2012 has not been announced and you do no want to be in Stillwater on a home game day if that is not your activity. As soon as the schedule is announced we will select a date with no home game and send you a definite invitation.

We hope you will look forward to exploring the OSU campus, Eskimo Joe's, OSU Range, Pawnee Bill's Museum, Sherrar Museum, Wettemann Range, and many other sights.

So please keep September and October 2012 dates flexible so you will be able to schedule a trip to Stillwater as soon as you receive our invitation.

Peace Corps Staff Reunion:
(post 31 May 11)

Peace Corps staff are invited to enjoy a very special evening at the historic National Building Museum in Washington, D.C. with Peace Corps luminaries, RPCV Members of Congress, Ambassadors and other special guests.

This special event is for everyone who ever worked as Peace Corps staff. Meet friends and colleagues from years gone by and from today. Similar to the highly successful Staff Reunion of 2002, this event is being organized by an independent committee. It proves to be memorable!

40TH + 1 peace CORPS ANNIVERSARY

Dear Friends,

The reunion last week was lots of fun and very inspiring. The President of Peru became friends with two PCVs who helped him get to the US where he got a BA, MA, and PhD. He had tears in his eyes as he was finishing his speech and there were lots of others tears in the audience. The friends of Ethiopia and Eritrea have been very active his negotiating a peace between the two countries. Ken Dunn got an award a few years ago for his work in establishing a curb side recycling program in Chicago.

It was great getting in touch with people again and hearing what everyone was doing.

We made two contacts at the reunion that you might want to follow up with.

Gene Whitmer, who trained with several of us in Tempe, Arizona has started a web page, at http://www.expcvsbrazil.com. It has lots of interesting items including a picture of Gail on horseback in Mato Grosso. Another attempt is being made to restart the friends of Brazil group. The contact is randle@ou.edu. If you have any ideas of what projects the group should do send him an email.

There is some more about the group on Gene's web page. If is OK with you I will send your email addresses to these two contacts in a few weeks.

I have added Pat Day's email address. She has been providing a great deal of help to Gene with his work on the web page.

We did not do a very good job of taking pictures, but here are a few from  the march across the Memorial Bridge to Arlington Cemetery.

Let us know if you get to DC and have any time for a visit and think about the 45th in four years.

I am retired from a community college teaching career in health sciences and also from a B&B here in my home on Kauai. I am now a full time ceramic sculptor and enjoy frequent trips to Asia. I visited the Amazon in '96 and am planning another trip to Brasil with other ex PCVs next year. Would love to have a reunion for my group on Kauai.
