Surprise! That search engine was for looking for something completely different, and I am a little overcome at finding this site in development. It was about time. I recognize some names from my old Marquette training group, but wonder about those dates. Seems it was a MIGHTY cold Spring when we tested that trainee-made shower in the kettle moraine area outside Milwaukee! Obviously, I enjoyed my PC Brazil experience, since I came back here to work and raise a family. Greetings and "aquele abraço" to all the old volunteers and staff until I can possibly gather my wits enough to contribute something more comprehensive.

Susan and I were first based in the Salvador favela of São Caetano working on flood control, developing a school and general cd. The second year we moved into the Old City near Pilhourinho and worked as resource in planning and architecture for PCVs throughout Bahia, with projects in Lençóis (project later became Chapada National Park), Itapitinga (town planning) Pilão Arcado on São Francisco River (health post design) and elsewhere. Also gave a favala rehab course in Architecture Faculty at Univ. Federal da Bahia. After Peace Corps we settled in Calgary Alberta, then Seattle and Philadelphia before emigrating to Australia six years ago. I'm presently consulting to the UN on national park development in Afghanistan.
Served as a hospital nurse trainer on the island of Barra dos Coqueiros, Sergipe. After a year or so I discovered that I was nothing more than a token American meant to dress up the lobby of the hospital, and also began to realize that the hospital delivered care only to those who belonged to the same political party as the hospital director. I moved on, was able to swing an invite to serve as a health and sanitation teacher in the village of Cotegipe, Bahia, where my Brazilian boyfriend had a farm. I had a successful stay there, and also married and had our first child, Marcus, delivered in the Hospital Português in Salvador. We now live in Vancouver, Washington, USA, and our three sons are all grown up.
During my stay in Brasil, I was very close to John Maddix (Joao), who passed away a few years ago. He was God Father to our youngest son, who just turned 18. Miss you, Joao!!!!!

I've been married to my Brazilian sweetheart, Antonio Helcio de Souza for 30 years and return to Euclides da Cunha often.
