Chapada da Diamantina The Chapada Diamantina National Park was created in 1985, in part due to the epic efforts of another Peace Corps Volunteer - Ruy Funch. The Park is meant to protect the vast and varied eco-systems of this region as well as the head waters of many of Bahia's more significant rivers including the Rio Paraguacu. It has become one of Brazil's most visited for those who wish to participate in Eco-Tourism and is popular for treking, swimming, biking, x-sports and caving. The Cachoeira de Fumaça (shown) is repudiated to be Brazil's tallest, free-falling waterfall at aprox. 380 mtrs. (Note: many of the photos displayed here were found on the internet and are meant only to depict the Park's rugged geography and popular attractions). |
