Anyone have photos of Pirambu? All mine were lost
and the website (google pirambu) is quite barren of fotos. I'm doing
a book of stories, poems and illustrations of my time in Brazil.
Also want to talk to Jim McManis.
Obrigado, mahalo e boa sorte a todos.

My name is
Marcise Mendonca Vital and I would like to contact the Peace Volunteers who were in Limoeiro do Norte - Ceará, Brazil to know whether a woman who worked as volunteer in Limoeiro was pianist (between 1964 and 1968)
I am the youngest daughter of the first PC director in Fortaleza, CE - Fermino J. Spencer. I have traveled back to Fortaleza as an adult and have fallen in love with the people, culture, and climate all over again. If you have not been back to Fortaleza, you owe it to yourself to do so. Fortaleza will surely make you proud of the hard work you did years ago.

I am presently the District Outreach Worker for our local school district. Peace Corp work has never left my heart. I am traveling to Brasil this summer to show my two teenage kids the country I still love. My daughter is staying after I fly home to learn Portuguese and work at the APAE that I worked at almost 30 years ago.
Comments: After Peace Corps, I finished school, married a local boy, put him through Harvard Divinity School, we pastored churches in Maine, Oregon, and Washington State. I've taught school (presently 5th grade) for 26 years. We have 2 sons and wives, and 1 grandson. Life is good!
Comments: Along with my wife (Mileide Andrade from Juazeiro), I will be visiting Brazil again, this December (this visit will be limited to Fortaleza, Juazeiro and Campos Sales). I am presently teaching a course on History of Brazil at the university here. Mileide teaches Portuguese at the same university.
Note from Mileide: Enquanto Charnel morava no Crato, conheci muitos de seus contemporaneos Voluntarios que nos visitaram em Juazeiro. Quero mandar saudacoes a todos.
Thanks to Paul Chattey and Dave Anderson for steering me to this site. Would love to share Virgin Island training stories and would love to contact all volunteers who served in the Serra de Ibiapaba. I've held Human Resources jobs all my adult life. Am divorced. Have two beautiful grown sons and one beautiful daughter-in-law. I also kept all my letters that I sent home. What a riot! Um abraco!
I'd love some history of how PC was either kicked out of Brazil in the late 60's, or "not asked to return" -- in any case, it's clear that the U.S. was supporting the Brazilian dictatorship and many people were not amused. I'd like some perspective on how this political dynamic influenced the termination of PC in Brazil. I've been back a few times and haven't brought up PC as I expect most people wouldn't remember it anyway.
There isn't a day that goes by that I don't relate something to my classes about my Peace Corps experience. It has had a huge impact everyday of my life.
I married a Brazilian man and I've been living in Fortaleza since then. I'm very happy to find this home page and I want to get in touch with other volunteers from my group.
I'm so grateful to get this website...it was e-mailed to me be a very good Brazilian friend...who at one time was almost Mrs. McPherson...we have stayed in contact with each other her name is Catarina, to me her name is just as beautiful as she is.
Comments: I am very happy to have found this site. I would love to be in touch with the group that was in Ceará 72/73. I have met Chris Olivere recently, she was a member of the group. Some members of the group I remember: Kersty Haven, Philip Pearlstein, Danna, Sue, Andrea, Becky Moore,Ken, Larry, Tim, Luis
Comments: At last, a RPCV site where we can all find out what happened to each other! Gene's great site is long overdue. Grab all your photos, old address books, memorabilia and spend an afternoon at the computer making this an even better site!
Could be an opportunity to find some old friends. I'm interested in some recordings of traditional Nordeste music, especially of the poets in the backlands; also copies of those little books of verses with lovely crude block prints on the covers. I'd sure like to know what the hell became of my good friend Jim McMannis who shared our casa de taipa em Fortaleza. Aloha
