I returned from Brazil in 66 and entered the University of Michigan in January 1967 graduating with a Masters in Social Work in 68. I've worked in foster care, marriage and family therapy and for the past 23 years as a program director for a residential and day services center known as Lad Lake, Inc.
I married Pat in 1970 and we have two daughters 31 and 25.
I returned to Brazil two years ago (2000) and located Steve Alexander along the Amazon. . I did not see him but enjoyed meeting and talking with his wife. Rio, and Sobradinho were included in my trip and I felt sad that the old part of the city (Sobradinho), which I knew so well has actually deteriorated while the "suburbs" have flourished. The Serviço Social is closed but still badly needed. Medical care for the poor is still very primitive.
Brasilia is a thriving city now, however, the old landmarks made it easy to move around. With friends, one of whom is a former Brazilian volunteer, I visited his former site in Goias near Goiania. We had a great time and I look forward to my next trip. If the stock market ever recovers! I would like to hear from former Brazilian volunteers.
