| I was stationed alone in Camapua, MT, and assigned to work at the local state health post as a "sanitation helper." That was theoretically half-day job, but a vaccination campaign meant longer hours, of course. During the rest of my time I taught English, set up a monthly children's recreation program (with a health ed emphasis), and founded a mimeographed community newspaper (O Camapuanense) that I trained a local staff to run. I also helped director Jim Creasman and his small staff process PCVs for the end of service in Cuiaba. Afterwards, I accepted a trainer job with the University of Texas and joined their staff in Petropolis where I led discussions in CD, Brazilian culture, use of mimeographed papers, etc. and helped administratively. |
