I originally was trained for Peace Corps Peru's Agricultural Coop group in
the Peace Corps Training site in Escondido, CA from July to Sept, 1970.
After becoming ill in my Peruvian remote site, I was reassigned to Peace
Corps Peru HQ office in Lima. The government decreed in late 1971 that all
foreign volunteers had to have a host national watching over volunteer
activities, as such and as there were no other acceptable opportunities in
Peru, I was offered the options of early termination, or taking a spot with
the Municipal
Administration- FIAM program for Peace Corps Brazil. I
accepted the latter and started a two-part training program with about 20
other trainees:
First in Hartford, CT where some FIAM personnel were doing some sort of
training, (February, 1972)
for a few weeks, and then on to Belo Horizonte, MG for a month (Joselda
Correa de Oliveira was a trainer), where after the program went to the
Recife Office for assignment throughout Pernambuco. The program slowly
disintegrated over the next 12 months or so. I finally gave up and
terminated in March, 1973. |
