Unforgettable! A lot of good friends well-remembered! Does anyone remember our group's director in Brattleboro? George...? He passed out a paper called "Learning How to Learn" - still fascinated by that. And ah, Camp Arden!
The Peace Corps set the direction for the rest of my life, a good direction often in spite of myself. Not a successful PCV - too immature for that. But the Peace Corps was good for me, and I am grateful to the trainers in Vermont, like Beth, and to Peace Corps state directors Joe da Rosa (Alagoas) and Herb Soll (Rio). Good, humane people. Also, I admire those volunteers who were able to accomplish good things. Greetings, old friends, and a moment of silence for Sargent Shriver, who has just been laid to rest....
I've been teaching in Montebello, a suburb of L.A. for over 30 years. Met and married another rpcv 35 years ago. David was in Colombia 7. We met in L.A. We have 2 grown children, both musicians. We go out to dinner about once a month with other rpcv's. We hit a different ethnic restaurant every month. It's fun. Still haven't found a 'good' Brasilian one yet... Have yet to run into anyone who served in Brasil. I know you're out there! Write to me!
I see some names that look familiar, but no one from Guanabara Health/CD seems to be a member. I'm looking forward to connecting with some of the veterans of PC Brazil.
I recently spent a little over 2 years as an Admin Officer for the Peace Corps in Cape Verde -in large part because I speak Portuguese and because I was a volunteer, plus my 25 years as a General Contractor and construction business owner. Now I'm in the Foreign Service on my first tour in Athens, Greece. My wife, Marli, is from Marica, RJ. And my 3 kids have all spent a lot of time in Brazil - 2 for a year each at PUC-Rio. It doesn't get out of your blood....
As of Apr 04 will be working at the US Consulate in Recife
Comments: Stumbled on this website and figured that O Estado do Rio needed to be represented. I returned to Brazil in 1989 and am going again in September 2007.
Have had wonderful reunions with fellow PCV friends from Brazil. Has brought back great memories and fun times with old friends. I am at Claire and Lud Pisapia's house this minute adding my name to this web page. My son is now in Peace Corps in Nicaragua and my husband, Jeff Lawrence (also a former PCV from Brazil) and I are going to visit Joran Dec. 26. Tchau
