The hotel has been completely renovated and the 'annex' is now a "Conference Center", which is really meeting rooms, dining and kitchen facilities. Sorry to report that the Catete/Flamingo neighborhood is looking rather shabby and unsafe for nighttime walking. The main hotel now has a large restaurant and reception area, but there is still evidence of where the bar was located during our PC days of
cachaça and cerveja with the older bartender who really disliked foreigners. :)
The Hotel Florida now caters to business travelers with room rates starting at about US $150.00 to $350.00.
Aiii, que saudades!

Update: May 2009
I just wanted to see a few
photos of the infamous Hotel Florida and The Annex that I took in Rio a
few weeks ago. Also a photo of me on the rooftop of the hotel where I
stayed in Copacabana. For those who don't know, the Hotel Florida was
the 'Peace Corps' hotel before the Windsor Hotel Group bought it in 1985
and renovated both buildings.
Abraços a todas!
