Parents Came to Rio - 1965 I worked in the Health Department in the mornings in the one of the oldest bairros in Rio de Janeiro, Sao Cristovao or St.Christopher in English. I was working downstairs in the TB out patient department of the Saude Publica (Health Department) when we had special visitors from the United States come by taxi right to the front door of the TB Clinic. It was parents of one of the PCVs! They walked into the Clinic! What a surprise to me! I didn't know they were coming for a visit. We were preparing to leave for the US. It was like in the old movie: Flying down to Rio? The one our parents saw many times over. The wife was dressed in a beautiful yellow Chiffon dress with a large summer yellow hat perched like "Yellow Bird" in our TB Clinic. The husband was pacing but keeping near his wife. "Carole, we have come for our daughter." She was pregnant. I introduced them to our Nursing Supervisor at the Sao Cristovao Health Department. We took them to our favela home. The PCV left Rio with hugs. Carole James
