During PC:

Briefly, I was a Medical Technologist, (lab tech!) I worked in a maternidade and a children's surgical hospital out by Galiao, then the International airport. We were the first all female group in Brazil and in the Peace Corps at the time. We lived in the favelas, did community health work (also learned to enjoy the escola de samba and macumba that went on next to us). I was courted by a Brazilian who enjoyed mountain climbing and manufactured mochilas (packs) and tents and sleeping bags. We married 6 months after my "discharge" in Rio on Feb 12 (2 days before Pele got hitched for the first time), I as a Catholic and my husband as a Methodist! We stayed one and a half years in Rio, then came up to the United States in April 1966.

After PC:

After our arrival here, I continued and have continued to work as a Medical Technologist. My husband, after getting drafted in the largest Viet Nam draft, went to Fort Leonard Wood as a cook, while I worked in the port hospital. He took Univ. classes, got an early out and went to collage in LA. He went into the sporting goods field, selling cross county skis and other outdoor equipment. He is now a publisher of outdoor literature and guide books.
