Hi, everyone. I've been reading my roommate's blog, A Little Piece of Heaven and found this website. After seeing a few names I can still remember, thought I'd reconnect. Carolina, Hank Misserville are planning to visit Sergipe next year (2010). Brunie

COMMENTS:

I worked with a peasant organizer named Joao Luis da Silva. He was organizing the peasants working on the sugar plantations in the region around Cabo Pernambuco. I wonder if anyone has heard of his whereabouts. I suspect he may have been murdered by the military during the 70's with U.S. complicity. I also would love to hear from any volunteers whom I had contact with.

COMMENTS:

Looking for David Santana who was in the same town from 66-68. He has disappeared. He lived in his family home in Honolulu, HI. The last time I heard from him was December, 2000. I never corresponded with him by e-mail.

COMMENTS:
Served as a hospital nurse trainer on the island of Barra dos Coqueiros, Sergipe. After a year or so I discovered that I was nothing more than a token American meant to dress up the lobby of the hospital, and also began to realize that the hospital delivered care only to those who belonged to the same political party as the hospital director. I moved on, was able to swing an invite to serve as a health and sanitation teacher in the village of Cotegipe, Bahia, where my Brazilian boyfriend had a farm. I had a successful stay there, and also married and had our first child, Marcus, delivered in the Hospital
Português in Salvador. We now live in Vancouver, Washington, USA, and our three sons are all grown up.

During my stay in Brasil, I was very close to John Maddix (Joao), who passed away a few years ago. He was God Father to our youngest son, who just turned 18. Miss you, Joao!!!!!
