I remember crashing in the Florida annex one night en route from Buenos
Aires back to Recife after some R&R. We had bought a jug of red wine
somewhere in RGdoSul and still had some dregs when we checked in. The next
a.m., bem cedinho, I had to catch the bus to Recife, a 40 hour ride, and
didn't have time to get any food, so I finished the wine. The road out of
Rio was very mountainous and I almost blew it, getting a serious case of
motion sickness.
I remember the Janis Joplin visit to Brasil. The old
anti-establishment newspaper, O Pasquim, published some topless pictures of
her on the Rio beach whose name I can't recall, but was way to the south
past Ipanema. So Gary, did you go party with her?
Speaking of Peace
Corps hotels and party girls, did many others make the trip to Buenos Aires?
There was a hotel there everyone stayed at, was it the Hotel LaValle? It was
on Calle LaValle. There was an Argentina beauty living there with her
sister. This girl's name was Monica. Our buddy in the PE Coop group Kent met
her first and told us about her. I looked her up when I got there and sure
enough, she was there and available. I took her to see Woodstock and out to
eat. Back at the hotel I was sharing a room with Eugenio, Leo and Lawless,
if I remember correctly, and she was with her sister. So we had no place to
go. So we kind of hid in the halls and played kissyface. Anyone else
remember that hotel or that girl?
